What We Believe

"My faith rests not in what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what He has done, and in what is doing for me."
-Charles Spurgeon

Core Beliefs

The following are the core beliefs of Oak Glen Baptist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.

Scripture

We believe the Holy Bible was written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:19-21), and therefore is perfect without any error in its entirety. We believe that God has preserved His Word for every generation (Psalm 12:7).
We accept only the King James Version as being God’s preserved Word for the English speaking people. We believe the Bible is to be the sole authority for our faith and practice, and is the supreme standard by which human contact, creeds and convictions shall be tried (Isaiah 40:8).

Salvation

We believe salvation of a sinful man is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). It is faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, and repentance of our sinful condition (Acts 20:21). We believe that this is the only way for a man to go to Heaven (Acts 4:12). We believe that once a person accepts Christ, his salvation is eternal and can do nothing to lose his salvation (John 10:28-29).

Seperation

We believe that all saved should live in such a manner that would glorify the Lord Jesus. We do not believe in isolation, we believe we are to be in the world, but not like the world. We believe the basis for separation is the Bible. (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1, 1 John 2:15-17)

Sanctuary

We believe the local church is a body of baptized believers who have voluntarily joined themselves for the purpose of fellowship, worship, evangelism, growth, and service. We believe the music should be Christ honoring and conservative, and should prepare the heart for preaching of the word of God. We believe the center of a worship service should be the preaching of the Bible.(Acts 2:42-47)

Stewardship

We believe every Christian is a steward of what God has given him whether it is money, time, opportunity, or ability. We believe God has commanded every Christian to tithe and give other offerings sacrificially to support the church and missions ( Proverbs 3:9-10, Malachi 3:10). We believe that every Christian should not only attend, but become active and serve in the local church. We believe that every Christian is commanded to not only join a local church, but to be faithful to attend and pray for all the meetings of the church (Hebrews 10:25).

Second Coming

Jesus Christ Himself will soon come again in the air to catch up His Church to reward their service. The unbelievers left behind will go through a period called the Tribulation, after which Christ will return to the Earth to set up His Kingdom of one thousand years of righteous rule. After this, the unbelievers of all ages will stand at the Great White Throne to be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, separated from God forever, while the believers spend eternity in the fullness of joy in Heaven with the Lord. (Matthew 24:29-42, I Thessalonians 4:16-18, Revelation 19:11-20:13)
